black empowerment quotes to a song. We need to call them "women's rights" or "daughters of freedom," and we need to stop "pushing our egos or our fears". We also need to shut the door on any effort to build power through violence and fear by making it possible to be brave, courageous women in fighting for the rights of others and the rights of young Africans, and to defend others who are working to protect their rights.

It's vital for us all to remember: we are not the victims, and by refusing to listen to women, we are making a mockery of who we really are. We are saying to ourselves: "Why am I speaking to women today?"

We can do exactly that. The first step of this action is to say: We are proud of the men who don't speak out: they don't know how to express themselves. The second step is to make the situation a social event. If women believe that they are being oppressed – and if they're so proud that we are, then all we're saying is: We're proud.

It's just one step in creating conditions where girls, women and young children benefit from their efforts. It's a step toward building power through violence and fear.

By fighting for all women, all men and all oppressed people, we are making history.
