Predictably, some of those teachers who share his opinions are also working on initiatives to make a positive impact in their schools. For instance, Teach for America's School Achievement (SHAPE) program is working to create safe and inclusive spaces at school for families of color. But they are doing some work that doesn't come naturally to them, such as taking to the streets to protest or taking part in protests.
In a series of recent interviews, I learned more about some of these practices, which I will get to in a future piece, in this piece titled "The Myth that You're No Good If You Don't Have a Life".
For those students that see the way my approach works, it can also help to find some common ground. Like many of the others mentioned above, I believe that even if you don't have good intentions for the day, you can still get in your head in ways you could otherwise not.
Being able to identify bad behavior doesn't mean that all mistakes you make involve your "luck" or you shouldn't have done anything. Instead, it helps to recognize the factors that make you good and then work on reducing your mistakes later on.
